A friend of mine that I have known since high school came to visit me this last weekend. I hadn’t seen her in about a year so I was looking forward to having a girl’s weekend. She isn’t vegan, but she was open to going to restaurants that had vegan options.
One great thing about Kansas City is the array of vegan options. It seems like there is always a vegan friendly restaurant that I still have to try. I love that about KC!
We decided on a Mediterranean restaurant that is right outside the outskirts of Kansas City in Overland Park, KS. called “The Basha Cuisine”.
The restaurant is not a 100% vegan restaurant, however they do have plenty of vegan options.
My friend ordered falafels with hummus and pita bread.
I ordered a dish called Kushari. Kushari consists of rice, lentils, chickpeas, macaroni noodles topped with tomato sauce and fried onions. On the side of the dish is hot sauce. It also came with side items including pita bread (I did ask and it’s dairy free), hummus and a side salad.
I ate every bite. It was all very delicious. The environment was very relaxing and the service was great. I mentioned to the staff that I was vegan and they were very knowledgeable on what dishes I could and couldn’t eat on the menu. They even mentioned that the sauce that came with my friend’s falafels was tahini sauce, so it was dairy free! Can life get any better?
The price was average, service was great and the food was delicious! If you are ever in the mood for Mediterranean, give “The Basha” a try!
